Equine Omega Complete®
Ulcer Case Study No. 1

Patient: 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding presenting with complaints of abnormal, neurotic behaviour.

August 24, 2022: Upon Gastroscope exam, stomach emptying was noted to be adequate. No ulcers were observed in the squamous mucosa. Two focal hyperaemic areas could be seen in the glandular mucosa surrounding the pylorus and a swollen/raised hyperaemic lesion with a fibrinous surface.

Diagnosis: Grade 2 moderate focal glandular ulcers surrounding pylorus.

Treatment: Gelding was prescribed Equine Omega Complete® to take 4 oz twice daily for ten days, followed by 4 oz once daily for 20 days; Omeprazole and Misoprostol were to be discontinued.

September 23, 2022: The owner has noted a marked improvement in adverse behaviour. The gelding’s coat quality had also improved significantly.

Upon Gastroscope exam, stomach emptying was noted to be adequate. No ulcers were observed in the squamous mucosa. In the glandular mucosa, the 2 focal hyperaemic erosions previously observed were no longer present.

The large, raised lesion previously observed was no longer swollen in the most cranial area, remaining swollen more dorsally with a thin fibrinous surface.

Gelding advised continuing Equine Omega Complete® at 4 oz daily for another 30 days.

October 21, 2022: The owner has noted behaviour has been completely normal.

Upon Gastroscope exam, stomach emptying was noted to be adequate. No ulcers were observed in the squamous mucosa. No active lesions could be seen in the glandular mucosa. A slightly thickened glandular fold is still present; however, the lesion appeared stable and inactive. The pyloric area has been remodelled and improved over the 60-day course of Equine Omega Complete®. Gelding recommended continuing on Equine Omega Complete® at 2 oz twice daily.
